This is a question perhaps all parents are asked by their children. The answer, while simple, is a little hard to explain to them since it requires visualizing sun and earth and the angle of light rays. Richard Dawkins, in his book "The magic of reality" captures it quite well visually though the dynamic aspect of explanation with the earth moving around the sun is absent in the static medium. The link below is an attempt, inspired by his book, to capture the dynamic aspect of his explanation. Interaction is also enabled to help understand the concept. This is just an experiment. Any feedback will be highly appreciated.
Pretty neat, Ajit. How nice to see animation and hear audio without resorting to plug-ins and other hoop jumping. Plus, I finally understand why it gets so hot in the summer and cold in the winter. ;)
